Social Security adds up to 57,726 members in seasonally adjusted terms in January

Social Security membership totals 57,726 members in the last month on a seasonally adjusted basis, approaching 20.3 million members (20,298,620). It is the sixth consecutive month in which the number of employed increases. This increase far exceeds the average variation of the last three months, of 19,922.



Since the pre-COVID-19 pandemic level was reached, in the second half of August 2021, the number of affiliates has grown by 812,143 people.

The dynamism of employment in innovative activities is maintained

The growth of employment records a remarkable dynamism in high added value sectors such as Informatics and Telecommunications, which has 19.9% more affiliates than before the pandemic, or Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities (11.5%).

In comparison with the level prior to the pandemic, although all the autonomous communities have higher employment levels, the increase in affiliation in the southern half of the country and in the archipelagos stands out, with an increase in employment of more than 5%.


 

Intense reduction of temporality

A year and a month after the entry into force of the labour reform, its positive effects on the stabilization of employment and the improvement of its quality are more clearly seen. In January, the percentage of affiliates with a temporary contract fell to the historical minimum of 15% (before the reform the average was 30%). In the case of children under 30 years of age, the temporality has fallen by 30 points, from 53% to 23%. There are 2.3 million more affiliates with indefinite contracts now than in December 2021, the last month before the reform’s entry into force.

The shift to more stable hiring formulas is especially noticeable among younger workers: three out of four under the age of 30 now have an indefinite contract (77%), compared to one in two before the reform (47% on the 2017-2021 average).

One in two storms becomes indefinite

More than half of the members who had a temporary contract between January and March 2022 and who are still registered, which is 4,055,141 employed, now have an indefinite contract, namely 51.7% (2,094,726). Of these, eight out of ten are fixed contracts (1,689,196), and only 20% are fixed-discontinuous (405,530). In addition, 40% of those who have gone indefinite have changed companies.


 

Another indicator of the increase in stability is that the average duration of the total number of contracts that have caused a decrease since the entry into force of the labor reform increases by 52 days compared to the figures of the year 2019, the last homologable year before the impact of the pandemic.

On the other hand, the number of workers in ERTE is below 16,000, in line with the behavior of recent months.

Average affiliation

Finally, in original terms, the average Social Security membership has lost 215,047 members in January due to the end of the Christmas campaign, as usual in the first month of the year. It is a decline of 1.06%, a fall below that of the eaves of 2021 (-1.15%), 2020 (-1.26%) and 2019 (-1.08%).

The total number of average members stands at 20,081,224 (10,638,367 men and 9,442,857 women), which is the highest figure in the historical series for a month of January. There are 454,063 affiliates more than a year ago.
