DAMA, the copyright management entity for audiovisual creators and creators, and Netflix, in collaboration with the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, present the third edition of the idea contest ‘Tell us the stories that nobody tells’. This initiative seeks to promote a greater cultural richness in audiovisual fiction and that is reflected in its plots and themes from the perspective of social inclusion.

The competition is part of Change of Plan, a program designed to promote a broader and more real representation of society in the audiovisual field.

Participants will be able to present ideas for feature films or series that explore inclusion in its multiple dimensions, addressing themes, situations and narratives that incorporate a perspective or reflection on social integration and their full participation in society. The bases of the contest include a theoretical framework that will serve as a reference.

The registration period will be open from April 7 to May 6, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. (peninsular time).

A jury made up of renowned professionals from the audiovisual sector will select five projects (two of series and three of feature films), which will receive a financial endowment of 5,000 euros per project. In addition, those selected will participate in a four-month training program that will include personalized tutoring, master classes, development of sales dossiers and preparation for the presentation of projects.

The process will culminate with a pitch session before industry professionals at a national festival in 2026. As part of this initiative, two projects will be selected by a jury composed of the tutors of the program and representatives of DAMA, Netflix and the Ministry of Inclusion for the recording of their teasers.

“From the public administration it is imperative that we continue to support and promote productions that reflect the diversity and complexity of our communities,” explained Minister Elma Saiz in the framework of the partnership agreement, hosted by the Ministry of Inclusion. “The audiovisual industry has a unique ability to tell these stories with authenticity and depth and the ministry will share with the participants the knowledge and learning gained from the launch of the Inclusion Policy Laboratory, a pioneering body in applying scientific knowledge to social policies and evaluating them.”

“’Tell us the stories that nobody tells’ is born from the firm conviction that an inclusive audiovisual contributes to a more empathetic and respectful society with others. Throughout the last decade, Netflix has worked with talent from all over Spain to share and make visible new stories; and with organizations such as DAMA and the Ministry of Inclusion to create more access channels for professionals from underrepresented communities. We trust that this third edition will continue to expand the horizons of our sector, making it more open and enriching,” said Esperanza Ibáñez, Director of Public Policy at Netflix in Spain, Portugal & EMEA Public Policy Affairs.

“Change of Plan is a necessary project in the sector to support creators and creators who give voice to stories where inclusion becomes the backbone of the reality that surrounds us. Because the audiovisual industry requires stories that can cross borders and are inspiration to create films and projects where the human, understood as the exercise of the maximum disposition to know, choose and determine us, is unequivocally at the center of the story”, explains the president of DAMA, Virginia Yagüe.

With the ‘Tell Us the Stories That Nobody Tells’ contest and the Change of Plan program, DAMA and Netflix reinforce their commitment to diversity and inclusion in the audiovisual, promoting representation both in the stories and in the script and direction teams.

About Change of Plan

Change of Plan is a program to promote reflection on representativeness in audiovisual fiction in Spain and encourage diversity both in front of and behind the cameras.

The project is supported by the academic conclusions of the report 'Cultural diversity in audiovisual creation in Spain. Diversity of authors and stories (2015-2019)' elaborated for the program by doctors Javier Carrillo, of the Rey Juan Carlos University, and Concepción Cascajosa, of the Carlos III University. The study shows how audiovisual production still has a way to go to represent more faithfully the diversity of Spanish society.

About the collaboration of the ministry

The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration participates in this initiative through the General Secretariat for Inclusion, which will collaborate in the selection of projects and mentoring that will guide participants on the scope of inclusion and the need to incorporate in audiovisual productions the realities of the 'invisible' people of our society. To this end, we will provide real experiences of people who are in a situation of vulnerability, who have been accompanied in the process towards a life in better conditions. The Ministry’s will is to promote the culture of inclusion, eliminate stereotypes and show the breadth of stories that diversity hides and that often no one tells.
