Functions

  1. The planning, development and management of humanitarian assistance programmes for migrants.
  2. The planning, management and monitoring of migration centers, as well as the referrals from these centers to other resources or programs.
  3. Coordination and planning of urgent intervention actions for exceptional situations and humanitarian emergencies, in collaboration, where appropriate, with the Autonomous Communities, Government Delegations and Subdelegations, local corporations, as well as public and private entities.
  4. The patrimonial management of movable and immovable resources in relation to migration centres, their inventory, the management of leases and, where appropriate, demanial mutation procedures, the adequacy and conservation of migrant centres and the maintenance of their facilities, as well as the planning, coordination, preparation and direction of works projects affecting migration centres.
  5. The proposal to contract works, services and supplies necessary for the operation of migration centres.
  6. The management of grants and other financing and management instruments for collaboration with public and private entities in the field of humanitarian care and defense of the human rights of migrants, and collaboration with public and private entities whose activities are related to this field.
  7. The development and management of programs linked to the voluntary return of migrants, family reunification, migrants with a job search visa, in coordination with the General Secretariat of Objectives and Policies of Inclusion and Social Security.

 

Actions

Among the numerous activities carried out by the centres for migrants and refugees, the Alcobendas International Protection Reception Centre publishes in 2025 a Health Guide in several languages.

The purpose of the guide is to raise awareness among migrants and refugees about habits and practices that promote good health, understood as "physical, mental and social well-being, and not only the absence of disease or infirmity" (WHO). The guide includes aspects related to maternal and child health, mental health, gender violence, addictions, accidents, social and health resources of interest and a glossary of terms.

The guide, co-financed by the European Union, is the result of collaboration between the Alcobendas International Protection Reception Center, the Health Service of the City of Alcobendas and the General Subdirectorate of Centers and Emergencies of the Migration System. It has been edited in four languages: Spanish, English, French and Arabic.
