The Secretary of State for Social Security and Pensions, Borja Suárez, participated in the act of deposit of the Instrument of Ratification of the Ibero-American Multilateral Convention on Social Security by the Republic of Colombia, represented by its ambassador in Spain, Eduardo Ávila, at the headquarters of the Ibero-American Social Security Organization (OISS), in Madrid.
On May 1, the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, signed the Instrument of Ratification, as well as the Implementation Agreement and the deposit of the Annexes through which the South American country joins the 12 countries that are already applying this instrument: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Spain, El Salvador, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal and Uruguay.
The Ibero-American Multilateral Agreement is an element of guarantee of the social security rights of people who travel to several countries to carry out a work activity and accredit periods of employment, insurance or contribution in two or more social security systems of the States that make up the Ibero-American Community of Nations.
The Ibero-American Social Security Organization (OISS) is an international organization, of a technical and specialized nature, whose purpose is to promote the economic and social well-being of the Ibero-American countries and of all those who are linked by the Spanish and Portuguese language through the coordination, exchange and use of their mutual experiences in Social Security and, in general, in the field of social protection.
