Migraciones acoge a 52 personas refugiadas de nacionalidad siria en el marco del Programa Nacional de Reasentamiento

A total of 52 people from Beirut (Lebanon) arrived yesterday at the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport on a commercial flight within the framework of the National Refugee Resettlement Plan 2025. The transfer was carried out without incident and up to 16 institutions, agencies and entities participated in the reception, including the Office of Asylum and Refuge, UNHCR, AENA, the Civil Guard and the Red Cross.

Within the National Resettlement Plan, the Secretariat of State for Migration is responsible for coordinating the reception at the airport of resettled persons and the subsequent referral to the resources of the National Reception System, managed by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration. The main objective of this referral is to guarantee the reception of families, as well as to promote integration through a preparation itinerary for the autonomy of the collective of these people.

The 52 refugees from Syria are part of the selection mission carried out by the Secretary of State for Migration in July 2024, based on the dossiers with Lebanon provided by UNHCR Spain and in coordination with the International Organization for Migration, UNHCR in Spain, MAEC and the Office of Asylum and Refuge.

Balance of the National Resettlement Program 2025

The National Resettlement Program for 2025, approved by the Council of Ministers on December 23, includes the commitment to resettlement in Spain of 1,200 refugees throughout the year, a commitment of the Government of Spain to this program that is included in the global resettlement priorities identified by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Throughout 2025, the program has already consolidated the settlement of 248 refugees, of which 213 are refugees from Beirut (Lebanon) and 35 from Costa Rica.

With regard to Costa Rica, the first mission to select files within the framework of the National Resettlement Program was carried out last May with the result of 383 persons awaiting transfer. The second selection mission with this country will take place next September on the new dossiers requested from UNHCR Costa Rica.

Supplementary Route of Labour Mobility

The implementation in 2023 of the complementary and additional way to authorize the arrival of refugees opened the possibility of implementing additional quotas to those of the resettlement programs, this constituted a new bet for the mechanisms of ordered and safe mobility, the protection of refugees and international solidarity. This additional route authorizes the arrival of refugees, preferably from Central and South America. This arrival is always linked to a job offer by a company in Spain.

Throughout the year 2025, 12 families (44 people) arrived in Spain through this route, which has been hosted in Valladolid and Murcia by the entity ACCEM, which manages the program of reception and integration of people transferred within the framework of this complementary route.
