The Social Security registered in February 3,076,841 foreign affiliates in the original series, after adding 202,443 affiliates in the last 12 months. The year-on-year variation exceeds 7%.

Overall, the number of foreign affiliates has totaled more than 800,000 employed since February 2022. In fact, 43.7% of the employment created since the implementation of the labor reform corresponds to foreign workers.

In month-on-month terms, Social Security recorded 38,683 more jobs compared to the previous month.

In the system as a whole, foreign workers already represent 14.2% of the total social security contributions, six tenths more than a year ago.

If we discounted seasonality and the calendar effect, in the last month, the number of employed people from other countries increased by 22,221, to 3,181,111 affiliates.

“Our country is experiencing one of the most dynamic moments in the labour market in its recent history and there is no doubt about the role of foreign workers in this,” explains the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz. “Their significant participation in the membership reflects the dynamism of our economy and the integration capacity of the Spanish labor market.”

The Venezuelan workers, the collective that grows the most

Of the total number of foreign affiliates, almost 1.8 million are men, while the number of women exceeds 1.3 million. The presence of working women from other countries represents 42.6% of the total number of foreign workers.
About 30% of foreign affiliates come from European Union countries.

Among the different nationalities, the workers from Venezuela are the group that has grown the most in the last year, 35,289 members more than February 2025. The number of Venezuelan nationals registered in the Social Security has multiplied by nine in the last decade. The increase has also occurred especially among workers from Colombia, which has increased fourfold, and from Peru, by 2.5.

On the other hand, Morocco continues to be the country with the most social security affiliates, with 375,845 contributors, followed by Romania (336,214), Colombia (252,869), Venezuela (213,476), Italy (203,562), China (125,764), Peru (101,559) and Ukraine (78,824).

General Social Security System

The contribution of foreign workers is particularly relevant in some sectors of the General Social Security System. In Hospitality, they represent 28.9% of the members; in Agriculture, 26.8%; in Construction, they represent 24%; in Transport, 17.7%; and in Administrative Activities, 17.4%. In the Special Household System, they account for 42.4% and in the Agrarian System, 37.9%.

In addition, it is necessary to highlight the high percentage of foreign workers with indefinite contracts, 88.7% of the total, which is even higher than that of domestic workers (88.4%). If we compare it with the average percentage of the period 2017-2021, prior to the labor reform (58.9%) the data is even more striking.
In parallel, the temporary rate of this group of workers falls to historical lows, with the percentage of foreign affiliates with temporary contracts falling to 11.3%, also below that of nationals (11.6%). That percentage contrasts with the average for the period 2017-2021, which reached 41.1% of the total.

Entrepreneurship in highly qualified sectors

The growth of foreign affiliation is especially significant in self-employment, which in February exceeds 500,000 workers (500,037). This growth is 6% compared to the same month of 2025, well above the evolution of the autonomous regime at a global level (+1.1%).

We must point out the growing presence of foreign workers who undertake in highly qualified sectors such as Telecommunications and Computer Programming and Editing Activities, Broadcasting and Content Production and Distribution. The number of foreign self-employed people in Telecommunications has grown by 10.7% in the last year and in Publishing Activities, by 9.22%.
