La Seguridad Social suma 51.079 afiliados en términos desestacionalizados en septiembre

The number of Social Security members increased in September, in seasonally adjusted terms, by 51,079 people, to a total of 20,224,355 affiliates. Thus, 17 consecutive months of increase in employment are accumulated.

In total, 385,253 more members registered in the first nine months of the year, discounting seasonality and the calendar effect. In this way, 729,104 people exceeded the level of affiliation in August 2021, when the level of pre-pandemic affiliation was exceeded. The behavior in this month of September is better than in previous years, both in the seasonally adjusted series and in the original series.

Despite the uncertainty, the average affiliation of the first nine months of 2022 is in line with that registered between 2017-2019, years of great dynamism in the labor market.

If we analyze the data for the third quarter, we can see a better performance than other years. Thus, between July and September, Social Security membership has grown on average monthly by 40,773 people, above the average of 34,629 that occurred in those months between 2017 and 2019, years of strong growth.

The dynamism of employment in innovative activities is maintained

In the month of September, a remarkable dynamism is maintained in the high added value sectors, such as Informatics and Telecommunications or Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities.

Since February 2020, employment growth has been widespread, reaching almost all sectors. In addition, the increase in affiliation has been especially intense in the most innovative activities, among which Computer Science and Telecommunications (17.7%), Education (13.1%) and Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities (9.5%) stand out.

The growth of affiliation is also territorially widespread. In the last year, the increase was especially notable in the Balearic Islands (8.9%) and the Canary Islands (6.9%), followed by the Community of Madrid (4.3%), Catalonia (3.9%), the Valencian Community (3.6%) and La Rioja (3.6%).

More than 2 million indefinite

Nine months after the entry into force of the labour reform (and six months after the implementation of the main developments in contractual matters), its positive effects on improving the quality of employment continue to be appreciated. In September, the increase in affiliates with indefinite contracts, which already exceeds two million people compared to the end of 2021, continues to accelerate.

In addition, there is greater stability in the labor market. Affiliates with contracts of less than 30 days have been reduced by 2.6 million and the average duration of total contracts has been increased by 51 days compared to 2019.

On the other hand, 18,350 workers are in -ETOP in the third quarter, below the 25,519 of the first. One in two workers is in partial suppression. The approved sectoral RED mechanism for travel agencies protects 1,558 workers on average between July and September.

Average affiliation

Finally, in original terms, the average Social Security membership counted in September 29,286 more members, an increase that exceeds the same month of the 2017-2019 period, before the pandemic (17,480 more members, on average, in September). The total number of members stands at 20,180,287 (10,739,028 men and 9,441,260 women), which is 649,176 more than a year ago.

In particular, affiliation among women has increased by 61,351, thanks to the increase in the education and administrative sectors, mainly, while among men it has decreased by 32,065.

With this employment behavior, the ratio between contributors and pensioners is, as of August 31, at 2.37.
