Social Security records 23,508 more foreign affiliates in March

The Social Security registered 2,573,331 foreign affiliates in March, once the seasonality and calendar effect were discounted. There are 23,508 workers more than the previous month. If we take February 2020 as a reference, before the impact of the pandemic, the system recorded an increase of more than 384,000 workers from other countries, of which more than 230,000 have been incorporated in the last twelve months.



 
In March, this figure represented 12.4% of the total number of Social Security participants in seasonally adjusted terms.

Average affiliation
In average terms and without seasonality, that is, in the original series, Social Security registered in March 2,525,887 foreign affiliates, of which 849,847 are from countries of the European Union (33.6%) and 1,676,040, from third countries (the remaining 66.3%). In total, they represent 59,645 affiliates more than the previous month. 55.9% are men (1,411,856), while 44.1% are women (1,114,031). The largest groups of foreign workers come from Romania (338,623), Morocco (317,137), Italy (163,867), Colombia (138,660) and Venezuela (129,531).
In the last twelve months, the average membership of workers from other countries has grown by 9.9%, that is, it has added 227,062 employees.

62,000 Ukrainian affiliates
In addition, among other nationalities, there are 62,059 affiliates from Ukraine. This is 14,800 more than in January 2022, when the war had not yet begun, which represents a growth of 31.3%.           

  

The majority of workers from Ukraine who work in our country, about 88.5%, are covered by the General System (they are salaried) and 11.6% are self-employed.

Regimes and sectors
Overall, 83.5 per cent of foreign affiliates are covered by the General Regime and account for 2,108,843. In March, all the sectors covered by this regime rose. The busiest was Hospitality, (7.2%) followed by Construction (3.1%), Artistic Activities (3.1%) and Public Administration (3%). 
For its part, the Autonomous System registered 412,271 foreign affiliates. Of all the self-employed from other countries, 15% come from China, 11% from Romania and 8.8% from Italy.
