Social Security pays 10.5 million pensions in the June payroll, month that includes the extraordinary pay

In June, the Social Security paid a total of 10,498,828 pensions to almost 9.5 million people, with a payroll amounting to 14,397,519 million euros in June, in which the extraordinary pay is also paid to all pensioners of the Social Security, which stands at 14,034.8 million euros.
A total of 10,477,873 pensions receive double payments this month, except those that receive the extraordinary payments prorated on the 12 monthly payrolls or those that were not generated before January 1, which receive only the proportional share.
Average pensions
The average pension of the system reaches 1,371.4 euros per month, which represents an increase of 4.6% compared to the same month of the previous year. This figure includes the amount of the different types of pension (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood and in favour of family members). The average of the extraordinary pay amounts to 1,339.5 euros.
In terms of the average retirement pension, which receives about 6.5 million people (more than two-thirds of the total), it stands at 1,572.8 euros per month and its extra pay reaches an average of 1,550.8 euros.
By scheme, the amount of the average retirement pension from the General Scheme is EUR 1,732.2 per month, while in the Special Scheme for Self-Employed Persons it is EUR 1,060.6 per month. In Coal Mining, the amount of the average pension reaches 3002.6 euros, and 1,737.4 euros in the Regime of the Sea.
For its part, the average widow’s pension is 975.4 euros per month, while the extraordinary pay in this modality is 952.7 euros.
As for the new retirement increases, the average amount of the system was 1,652.7 euros on average, according to the latest available data (May). Specifically, in the General System, the average pension for new retirement benefits amounted to 1,763 euros per month.
Payroll and pension by class
The monthly payroll of contributory pensions reached the figure of 14,397.5 million euros in June. As usual, almost three-quarters of them are retirement pensions, accounting for 73.3% of the total (10,558.6 million euros). A total of Euro2,285.6 million has been earmarked for widows ' pensions, while the payroll for permanent disability benefits amounts to Euro1,329.1 million; the payroll for orphans amounts to Euro185.4 million; and the payroll for family benefits amounts to Euro38.6 million.
Delayed retirements increase
As of May (inclusive), the latest available data, 154,581 new retirement increases have been recorded. In the case of delayed retirements, they already represent 12% of the total of the new hikes, compared to 4.8% in 2019. This change reflects the impact of the delay incentives in place since 2022 and the reconfiguration of the early retirement framework. As a result, the average age of access to retirement is 65.3 years, compared to 64.4 years in 2019.
As for the average time to resolve the files, in May (last data available) it was 8 days for retirement pensions and 9.8 days for widows’ pensions.
In June, 1,574,146 pensions include the supplement for the reduction of the gender gap, of which 72% correspond to women (1,133,263). The average amount of this supplement is 76.9 euros per month.
Of the total supplemented pensions, more than 23.7% are pensioners with one child (372,418); 50.5% of the beneficiaries, with two children (795,528); 17.6% receive it for three children (277,364), and for four children, 8.2% (128,834).
Passive Classes
On the other hand, the monthly pension payroll of Passive Classes amounted to 1,772.1 million euros in the month of May (last data available), which means an increase of 98 million euros compared to the previous year, 5.9% more.
The number of Passive Class pensions in force was 739,447, which is 14,850 more pensions than in May 2025, with growth close to 2% per year.
The State Passive Class System mainly includes military and civilian personnel of the General Administration of the State, the Administration of Justice, the General Courts and other constitutional or State bodies, as well as officials transferred to the autonomous communities.
