La ministra Saiz impulsa el reto de acercar la Seguridad Social a los jóvenes: “sois los pensionistas del futuro”

The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, spoke on Monday at the Conference “Protagonists of the Welfare State for the sustainability of pensions” before a group of students of Law of the Public University of Navarra (UPNA).

In his speech, focused on approaching and explaining in detail the functioning of Social Security in Spain, he has focused on the wide range of benefits, deepening the pension system and its sustainability: “The Spanish Government works for and for you. Promoting measures and reforms that guarantee younger generations more and better opportunities for the future.”

Minister Saiz has indicated that Social Security is one of the three pillars on which the Welfare State in Spain is based, along with health and education. Therefore, he recalled that young people must also feel part of it, since, since the beginning of their working life, they are already part of the system.

“Another idea I would like you to take with you is the relationship between employment and the sustainability of our welfare system, and the size of it. So that you, the pensioners of the future, can count on the peace of mind that your pensions are guaranteed,” he said.

In this regard, Saiz has warned of certain news that questions the future of the public pension system, “something that has been happening for more than 30 years”. The minister has made a robust defense of the system, as well as its sustainability over the next few years thanks to the latest reforms.

“Faced with these auguries, those of us who believe in and defend the public social security system, we work to strengthen it, ensuring its sufficiency and sustainability. So that there will be decent pensions today and there will be when the retirement age comes to you. And that’s about having enough income and a manageable expense.”

Listing of training practices

Minister Saiz recalled that, since January 1, 2024, all undergraduate, master’s, doctoral and vocational students who carry out training or external academic practices are paid social security contributions.

A measure that allows those who have not yet had professional experience to start their contribution career and start generating rights for the future, including the recognition of this period for the purposes of their future pension.

In addition, the quote ensures greater protection for students during their internships. “Social Security is with the youngest ones because we know well that as a society we have a duty to encourage and help in your training. The future of our potential as a country rests in you,” he said.

Digital Transformation of Social Security

Social Security is in an ambitious transformation process to be more agile, accessible and close to citizens. To this end, Saiz explained during the intervention that, in addition to strengthening its workforce, it is incorporating new digital tools and artificial intelligence to improve the care and management of its services.

“New digital tools, artificial intelligence or the use of our important databases of information and knowledge will undoubtedly help us give better attention, I am sure.”

Among the measures implemented, digital platforms such as TUSS and IMPORTASS stand out, which provide information and access to online procedures. The minister has encouraged young people to download and consult these platforms in order to get closer to digital administration.

With these initiatives, Social Security is moving towards more efficient management, adapted to the digital context and oriented to excellence in the service to citizens.
