The Ministry of Inclusion welcomes a new group of 161 Syrian refugees affected by the earthquake in Turkey

The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration has received at the Torrejón de Ardoz air base a group of 161 refugees of Syrian nationality affected by the earthquake that occurred in Turkey on February 6. It is the second group of Syrian refugees who arrive in Spain in response to the emergency call made by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to European countries when the disaster occurred. This new contingent is made up of 36 family units, and will be resettled in Spain, as happened with the 89 people who arrived in the first group on March 4.
Of the 161 refugees, 47 per cent are women and 46 per cent are minors (mostly under 10 years of age). In addition, four single-parent families (single parent, with dependent children), two pregnant women, three people belonging to the LGTBI community, two girls with disabilities and some medical case that does not require urgent attention have arrived. The largest number of families are composed of 4, 5 and 6 members.
These people were on Turkey’s border with Syria and have been flown from Istanbul to the airbase. The arrival and subsequent referral operation to the resources of the State Reception System has been coordinated by the Ministry of Inclusion through the Secretariat of State for Migration, together with UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). In addition to those mentioned, the Ministry of Defense, the OAR (Ministry of the Interior), Border Police, Scientific Police, Civil Guard, Red Cross, CEAR, ACCEM, PPDL, Provivienda and YMCA have participated in the arrival device.
This operation is part of the National Resettlement Program (PNR) approved by the Council of Ministers annually and which provides protection to refugees from countries affected by conflicts and serious humanitarian crises, who are hosted in third states.
Referral to system resources
In the next few hours there will be a transfer to the squares of the system distributed in 13 provinces with the main objective of ensuring the reception of families, as well as accompanying them in their integration through a preparation itinerary for the autonomy of the resettled group. These resources are located in Huelva, Málaga, Teruel, Zaragoza, Cantabria, Guadalajara, Tarragona, Coruña, Ourense, Madrid, Murcia, Vizcaya and Valencia.
