El Ministerio de Inclusión abre a consulta pública el nuevo Plan de Integración y Convivencia Intercultural para recabar la opinión de ciudadanos, organizaciones y asociaciones 

The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration has opened for public consultation the new Plan of Integration and Intercultural Coexistence with the aim of having the contributions of people, entities and groups that can enrich this plan with their ideas and experiences.

The plan is conceived as a key tool to ensure equal opportunities, inclusion and social cohesion in a diverse and constantly evolving society such as Spanish society. Integration is a process in which all citizens play a fundamental role, so their contribution is necessary.

The public consultation is open from today and until March 21, 2025 at 10am and all contributions will be valued in the final elaboration process of the document. “The Government of Spain has a firm commitment to a migration policy based on integration, coexistence and respect for fundamental rights. This Plan is a further demonstration of that commitment and aims to lay the foundations for a more cohesive society, where diversity is a source of strength and progress”, explained Minister Elma Saiz, while calling for the participation of citizens. “The participation of citizens will allow us to move forward together towards a more just, inclusive and cohesive society.”

Areas of action

The Plan of Integration and Intercultural Coexistence is guided by the principles of equality and non-discrimination, citizenship, inclusion and interculturality. And it will have as main areas of action the reception and defense of human rights, economic promotion and employment, education, social services and health, housing and coexistence, citizen participation and equal treatment.

“Our immigration policy has always taken into account the facet of the integration of the people who arrive, it is a sign of identity. Now we want to go one step further and equip all of us with a stable instrument that will make it possible to put an end to the scourge of discrimination,” said Saiz.

“Last week I presented the Monitoring Indicators of the Strategic Framework for Citizenship and Inclusion Against Racism and Xenophobia 2023-2027, and they show that we have a lot of work to do in the fight against discrimination and racism.” This report found, among other aspects, that inequalities persist in education, employment, housing and access to basic public services such as health, and also that the public participation of foreign people is far from comparable to that of nationals.

“The Public Administrations have to rise to the challenge represented by the inclusion of migrants,” said Minister Saiz. “Other countries around us, which received migrants before us, have had negative experiences. Spain now has the opportunity to do it well.”
