The Minimum Vital Income has reached almost 2,300,000 people in July

The Minimum Vital Income (IMV) reached 752,469 households in July, according to the latest statistics published by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS). The average amount of the benefit is 519.16 euros per month per household and, overall, the current payroll has amounted to 426.3 million euros.

This month, there are 112,501 active benefits more than there were a year ago in this same period, which means an increase of 17.6%.

As for the evolution of the beneficiaries, in July 2025 370,570 beneficiaries were counted more than those registered in the same month of 2024 (+19.2%).

Due to the profile of the holders and beneficiaries, we can say that the IMV has a strong female profile, where 67.8% of the holders (509,970) and 53.5% of the beneficiaries are women, in particular, 1,229,040.

Childhood and IMV

41.2% of the beneficiaries are children and adolescents, 947,903, which is why it responds to one of the main objectives of the IMV that is to combat child poverty.

In July, in more than two-thirds of the households covered by the IMV, minors coexist, specifically 69%. In total, there are 519,011 households with minors, of which 129,655 are single parents, that is, they are made up of a single adult (usually female) who is in charge of minors.

“More than 129,000 single-parent households are receiving the Minimum Vital Income. In most cases, there is a woman in charge and minors in charge. The provision is an essential lever at a difficult time in their lives, when supporting a family alone involves a huge effort. The IMV helps to give stability and security to these mothers and their sons and daughters, recognizing their reality and accompanying them where they need it most,” said Minister Elma Saiz.

One of the main tools to combat the risk of child poverty is the Child Support Supplement (CAPI), which is part of the Minimum Vital Income. This month, the IMV with this supplement has reached 527,071 units of coexistence. This form of IMV involves an aid of 115 euros per household per month in the case of children from 0 to 3 years; 80.5 euros per month for each child between 3 and 6 years; and 57.5 euros per month for each child between 6 and 18 years. Since its inception, the IMV has reached 1,068,719 households and benefited 3,176,036 people, of whom 1.37 million are children and adolescents, 43.3% of the total.

“In these five years, the Minimum Vital Income has proven to be an effective and essential tool to reduce extreme poverty and inequality, especially among children and adolescents. Behind every piece of data there is a life, a home that relies on this help to look to the future with a little more certainty,” says Saiz.

It is five years since the creation of the IMV, in which the Social Security has allocated 16,204.7 million euros to the payroll of this benefit.
