The Minimum Vital Income (IMV) has reached, with data accumulated at the end of the September payroll, 509,574 households and a total of 1,406,850 people since its implementation in June 2020. These are data from the National Institute of Social Security, which the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration will publish regularly from this month of October and which break down the set of households, by type, number of holders and beneficiaries of the benefit by sex, Autonomous Community and province.
Headline profile
These cumulative figures show that two out of three benefit holders are women (338,982, compared to 170,592 men), and in total the benefit has reached more women (767,709) than men (638,881). 42.4% of the beneficiaries are minors (597,179).
By type of household, the majority are those in which at least one minor is among the beneficiaries (64.2% of the total, 327,398 households) and there are already 272,913 benefits that receive the Child Support Supplement, an aid of 100 euros per household per month in the case of children from 0 to 3 years old; 70 euros per month for each child between 3 and 6 years old and 50 euros per month for each child between 6 and 18 years old that entered into force on 1 January.
The IMV is a living benefit. On September 27, the Council of Ministers approved the ‘Royal Decree regulating the compatibility of Minimum Vital Income with income from work or self-employed economic activity in order to improve the real opportunities for social and employment inclusion of people benefiting from the benefit’, which will encourage recipients to obtain employment or - if they already have it - to increase the number of hours worked ensuring that their disposable income will always be higher than they would have had if they had not taken that step.
