El Gobierno celebra el I Foro contra el Odio para analizar los efectos del discurso de odio y la polarización

The First Forum against Hate, to be held on March 11 in Madrid, will bring together experts and affected people, who will reflect on how hatred undermines people’s dignity. The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will be in charge of inaugurating the event.

The meeting will focus on the need to create safeguards to face the impact and risks generated by Artificial Intelligence in the defense of human rights, as well as the influence of disinformation in the propagation of hostile messages.

During the Summit, the effects of digital harassment on specific individuals and groups will be analyzed, with the presence of analyst Sarah Santaolalla, former unaccompanied minor and social worker, Mohamed El Harrak, and actress and director Abril Zamora. They will share their experience as people who suffer hatred in their daily lives, with Minister Elma Saiz as moderator.

One of the outstanding interventions is that of the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Ángel Moratinos.

Another round table will be on governance and international cooperation, with the participation of the Minister for Digital Transition and Public Service, Óscar López; the Chair of the Committee of Experts on Intercultural Inclusion of the Council of Europe, Karoline Fernández de la Hoz; the Director of the UN Information Centre in Brussels, Sherri Aldis, and Irina Vasiliu, political reporter at the European Commission Representation in Spain. The table will be moderated by the co-director of El Orden Mundial, Eduardo Saldaña. In this space, the relations between freedom of expression, security, disinformation, and the defence of human rights and democracy will be discussed.

A space for monologues will feature Lamine Thior, comedian, actor and host of the podcast “There are no blacks in Tibet”.

Impact of the misuse of technology and AI on fundamental rights

The third round table will deal with technology, platforms and good practices, with the interventions of TikTok’s senior manager of Institutional Relations for Spain and Portugal, Ana Abade; Google’s director of Institutional Relations and Public Policies, Miguel Scarsi; Meta’s director of Public Policies for Spain and Portugal, José Luis Zimmermann, and the director of the Observatory against Racism and Xenophobia (OBERAXE), Tomás Fernández. The table will be moderated by the journalist Jaime García Cantero.

The objective of this dialogue is to know the proactive measures of moderation of the platforms, their data of withdrawal of hate messages and their fundamental role of collaboration to avoid that hatred spreads without control on social networks.

Next, there will be the colloquium called “On the Target of Hatred”, in which the Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, and the Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, will participate, with the moderation of the Secretary General of Inclusion, Elena Rodríguez. Throughout this table we will address how the words of hatred poured into a social network seek to dehumanize people.

The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, will be in charge of closing the Hate Summit.
