Con 152.000 afiliados más a la Seguridad Social, se registra en marzo el mayor crecimiento de la serie histórica, y se superan los 20,5 millones

The number of Social Security members increased by 151,943 people in March in seasonally adjusted terms and reached 20.5 million (20,532,371). The growth in employment in March is exceptional and closes a quarter in which 291,477 people have been employed, which is the largest historical increase in the first quarter of the year.

The pace of growth in March is more than three times the average of the previous three months. The current level exceeds by 1.1 million people the number of members that existed before the start of the pandemic (February 2020).

The dynamism of employment in innovative activities is maintained

The growth of employment is notable in sectors of high added value such as Informatics and Telecommunications, whose number of affiliates has grown 20.8% compared to those registered before the pandemic, or Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities, which has a growth of 12.4%. One in four affiliates joins these highly productive sectors.

All the autonomous communities have higher levels of employment than they had before the pandemic. The increase in membership in the southern half of the country and in the archipelagos stands out, with an increase in employment of more than 5.9%.

2.6 million more affiliates with an indefinite contract

Fifteen months after the entry into force of the labour reform, its positive effects on the stabilisation of employment and the improvement of its quality remain evident. In March, the percentage of affiliates with a temporary contract has been reduced to reach the historical minimum of 14% of affiliates (before the reform the average was 30%).

Overall, there are now 2.6 million more affiliates with an indefinite contract than in December 2021, the last month before the reform’s entry into force.

Another indicator of the increase in stability is the increase in the average duration of contracts. Between January and March of this year, it has grown by 47 days compared to the figures for the same period of 2019, the last homologable year prior to the impact of the pandemic.

On the other hand, the number of workers in ERTE remains at minimum levels, around 15,000 people.

Young people

The average growth in employment among young people is more than double the average. Specifically, in 2022 it was 8%, compared to 4% of the total number of affiliates. This increase is especially noticeable in the most productive sectors, such as Health and Social Activities, Informatics and Telecommunications and Professional and Technical Activities.

In the case of children under 30 years of age, the time limit has been reduced by 32 points compared to the level it had before the reform, from 53% to 21%.

Average affiliation

Finally, in original terms, the average affiliation to Social Security has won 206,410 participants in March, which means an inter-monthly increase of 1.02%. It is the largest increase of average affiliates in a month of March of the entire historical series.

The number of average members stands at 20,376,552 (10,778,350 men and 9,598,202 women), the highest figure in the series. There are 542,049 affiliates more than a year ago, which represents a growth of 2.73% year-on-year.

Finally, it should be noted that dynamism in the labour market is contributing to strengthening the pension system, and the contributor/pensioner ratio reaches 2.41, the highest level of the decade.
