About us

Article 71 of the Organic Law 4/2000, of 11 January on the rights and freedoms of foreigners in Spain and their social integration provides for establishing the Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia to perform research and analysis and endows it the power to raise proposals for action to combat racism and xenophobia.

What we do?

The Spanish Observatory on Racism and Xenophobia falls under the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration’s Secretary of State for migration, and specifically under the Directorate General of Humanitarian Attention and Social Inclusion of Immigration. Royal Decree. 903/2018 of 20 July and Royal Decree. 216/2022 of 19 March assigns the following functions to the Observatory

  1. To collect and analyse information on racism and xenophobia to gain knowledge regarding the situation and potential trends, by implementing an information network.
  2. To promote the principle of equal opportunities and non-discrimination and combating racism and xenophobia
  3. To cooperate and coordinate with various public and private stakeholders, nationally and internationally, in order to prevent and combat racism and xenophobia.
