Publication: "Non-discrimination on religious grounds in Spain"

  • Non-discrimination on religious grounds in Spain
    • Synopsis

This book is based on the link between article 14 of the Spanish constitution upholding the principle of non-discrimination, and article 16 upholding the right to religious freedom. The influx of immigration has brought religious plurality to Spain.

Jaime Rossel, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Universidad de Extremadura explains how exercising religious freedom is hampered by out-dated legislation. The author signals the labour environment as where the issue poses the greatest difficulties.

The book is divided into four main sections. The first is an introduction and the second introduces the fundamental right to religious freedom and discusses the legislative structure underpinning this right. The third relates the principle of equality and non-discrimination on legal grounds in international and regional legislation, highlighting the Council of Europe and the European Union. The fourth section discusses religious freedom and non-discrimination on religious grounds in Spain. It provides updated legislation and spheres of society where conflicts might arise.
