  • Report on the news portrayal of immigration in Spain - 2007
    • Synopsis

The two-fold purpose of this report is to provide an analysis of the way the news portrays immigration and offer proposals that can be applied. A quantitative and a qualitative approach is applied to the major news media. As compared to the report from the year prior, the conclusions are: that the portrayal of immigration in the media became more inclusive, that the presence of immigration diminished in radio and television news, that there is an excess stress to nationality in news about crime*, that Eurocentrism still dominates the news, that there is very scant representation of immigrants in news about immigrants, and that a contextual analysis of migratory flows had yet to be done.

The report is divided into a presentation of conclusions, a discussion of indicators developed quantitatively, a presentation of criteria from the member-news perspective, a succession of contributions made by various areas of specialization, a case study, and finally a presentation of the research team and its methodology.
