    • Synopsis

This report is based on the results obtained from the ‘Attitudes towards immigration’ survey conducted by the CIS (Sociological Research Centre) in 2011. In order to implement public policy and strategies preventing and combating racism and xenophobia, the perception that Spanish citizens have of immigration must be ascertained.
On this occasion, the survey was conducted at the same time as figures were revealed on the economic crisis that was that particularly hit the immigrant population. During this period there was an increase in the feeling that immigration is to blame for diminished job opportunities and access to public services.
The report is divided into three sections. The first chapter presents immigration policy and the presence of immigrants. The second describes immigrants’ social integration into the autochthonous community.  The third chapter presents pictures and experiences of harmonious interaction between the autochthonous population and immigrants.
