La Seguridad Social registra casi 448.000 afiliados nuevos desde el inicio de 2024

The Social Security has registered, as of November 15, 21,270,689 members. Since the first day of the month, a figure close to 21.3 million has been maintained. There are 174,374 more occupied than at the end of October of this same year.

 

If we deduct seasonality and the calendar effect, 447,937 jobs have been created since the beginning of 2024, a figure in line with pre-pandemic levels up to the 21,290,873 affiliates, with an increase of more than 18,000 people in the last two fortnights.

With data available through November 15, the total number of affiliates has increased by more than half a million people (509,477) in the adjusted series in the last year, and by 1.93 million since before the start of the pandemic.  

The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, highlights that: “The Spanish labor market remains strong with almost 21.3 million members in the middle of the month. In the past year, since November 15, 2023, more than half a million jobs have been created.”

Province of Valencia

If we focus on the data of the province of Valencia, the affiliation stands at 1,166,125 workers on average in mid-November, which means 12,479 more affiliates (+1.1%) than in the first part of October. In 2023, membership growth in the same period was 19,707 affiliates.

Since mid-November 2023, membership has grown by 25,082 employed in the province; that is, it accounts for 2.2% more than a year ago.

The data cannot be analyzed without taking into account the effects of the Dana disaster and valuing the protection shield for workers, self-employed workers and companies. “We are closely monitoring the employment situation in Valencia and we are very cautious, but affiliation continues to grow, and considering the seriousness of the situation, we can say that the social shield is working,” explained Minister Elma Saiz.

“Valencia has suffered its biggest crisis in years. The priority on the part of the Ministry has been to implement as soon as possible a network of aid and protection, such as the ERTE and the ceses of activity for self-employed, so that people could focus on recovering their lives and healing, which is the important thing, without the concern of not having a livelihood later”, he continued.

The minister also valued the rapid deployment of the increase in the Minimum Vital Income (+15%), the Child Support Supplement (+30%) and non-contributory pensions, which on November 18 already received their extra pay. In total, the three grants reach more than 100,000 people in the municipalities affected by DANA. “Protecting the most vulnerable households is an act of social justice, and of protecting our economy.”
