Social Security records 2.7 million foreign workers in September

The Social Security registered 2,669,101 foreign affiliates in September, once the seasonality and the calendar effect were discounted. That’s 11,914 more members than in August. Since February 2020, before the impact of the pandemic, the system has recorded an increase of 479,680 workers from other countries.

 

In September, this figure represents 12.9% of the total number of Social Security participants in seasonally adjusted terms.

Average affiliation
In average terms and without seasonalization, that is, in the original series, the Social Security registered this month 2,686,990 foreign affiliates, which means 10,462 affiliates more than in August. Of the total, 881,774 workers come from European Union countries (32.8%) and 1,805,216 from third countries (67.2%). The largest groups of employed are from Romania (337,765), Morocco (309,639), Italy (182,757), Colombia (171,982) and Venezuela (146,126). Of the total, 55.6% are men and 44.4% are women.
In the last twelve months, the average affiliation of foreign workers has grown by 9.4%, that is, it has added 230,971 affiliates.

65,946 Ukrainian affiliates
Among other nationalities, there are 65,946 affiliates from Ukraine. This is 18,687 more than in January 2022, when the war had not yet begun, which represents a growth of 39.5%.
 

The majority of workers from Ukraine, about 87%, are in the General System (they are salaried) and 13% are self-employed.

Regimes and sectors
Overall, 83.9% of foreign affiliates were covered by the General Regime, with 2,253,419 workers. The sectors that have been most occupied are Education (21.7%) and Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting, Forestry and Fisheries (6.8%), in addition to the Special Agricultural System, which increased by 5.3%. In contrast, the number of participants decreased, mainly in Household Activities as Employers (-7.46%) and Public Administration (-6.58%).
For its part, the Autonomous System counted 427,801 foreign affiliates. Of all self-employed workers, 14.9% come from China, 10.9% from Romania and 9% from Italy.
