Payroll and pensions by class

Of the monthly payroll of contributory social security pensions (14,498.2 million euros), three-quarters correspond to retirement pensions. Specifically, these pensions account for 73.5% of the payroll, 10,654.6 million euros. As of August 2026, 247,161 new retirements have been registered in retirement pensions, of which 11.6% were voluntary delayed retirements, 6.8 percentage points higher than those registered in 2019.

As a result of the voluntary delay in the time of retirement and the lower anticipation, the average age of access to retirement is 65.4 years, when in 2019 it was 64.4. It should be remembered that in 2022 new incentives for delayed access to retirement came into force and the legal framework for early retirement was reconfigured.
