La ministra Elma Saiz transmite al comisario Brunner la apuesta de España por la implementación del Pacto Europeo de Migración y Asilo

On Monday, the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, held a meeting with the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, at the headquarters of the Ministry. During the meeting, the minister transmitted the commitment and commitment of the Government of Spain to the integration of migrants, through the promotion of regular and safe migration and its positive impact on the economy.

During the meeting, the implementation of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum was addressed, with the objective of strengthening migration management from the field of inclusion and integration, as well as shared responsibility and solidarity. 
The Pact, adopted in May 2024, establishes common rules on border control, processing of asylum applications and reception, strengthens the role of the European Union Asylum Agency and introduces mechanisms for the relocation of asylum seekers and financial contributions between Member States.

“We are aware that some measures of the Pact can be brought forward and we are working on doing so. It is important that the measures advanced are so in the field of both responsibility and solidarity, two key issues for the joint and coordinated management of migration in our continent. Without forgetting that this was the guiding principle that was maintained in the negotiations of the Pact,” said the minister.  

In this sense, Saiz has also highlighted the Plan of Integration and Intercultural Coexistence in which the Government of Spain is working, currently open to contributions from regional governments, local entities, third sector and social agents. The goal is social integration and cohesion, and will act in a number of key areas such as economic promotion and employment, education, health, social services, citizen participation, gender and LGTBIQ+ community, among others.  

“Spain is committed to regular and safe migration, but without losing sight of the exquisite fulfillment of human rights. This Plan is a political initiative of the first magnitude that demonstrates the success of the migration policy of the Government of Spain”, said the minister.
