La ministra de Migraciones inicia viaje a Latinoamérica con una primera visita a Uruguay

The Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, Elma Saiz, begins a trip to Latin America with a first visit to Uruguay, where she will meet this Wednesday with the head of Labor and Social Security, Juan Castillo, and the Minister of Social Development, Gonzalo Civila in Montevideo.

In both meetings, bilateral collaboration between the two countries in the fields of Social Security, social justice and the welfare system will be addressed. “Proof of our great collaboration is the bilateral Social Security agreement of 2005, which is an example of how two friendly countries can intensify their ties facilitating the mobility of people,” said Minister Saiz.

In addition, the visit to Uruguay includes a meeting with the Spanish community, a country in which more than 72,600 Spaniards reside according to data from the Register of Spanish Residents Abroad (PERE) of the National Institute of Statistics.

Visit to Argentina

On Thursday, Minister Saiz travels to Buenos Aires where she will deliver the Diploma of Recognition of Emigration Merits to the Association of Children of the Civil War in Argentina. “It is an act with which we will value the historical work of this association, giving voice to exile and defending the memory of thousands of people who had to flee Spain. This recognition symbolizes the government’s commitment not to forget and to continue walking together and together on the path of memory,” he said.

Later, the minister will hold a meeting at the University of Belgrano to deliver the lecture “Protecting people to grow as a country: Social Investment for sustained and sustainable growth”, where it will place special emphasis on the value of social investment as an engine of transformation and prosperity.

In Argentina lies the largest colony of Spaniards abroad. According to the Consular Registration Registry, 528,415 citizens reside in this country. Therefore, the minister will meet with the Council of Spanish Residents (CRE) of Buenos Aires to share the progress in the development of the Regulation of Citizenship Abroad.

He will also hold a meeting with the Spanish community at the Spanish Embassy in Buenos Aires, which will be attended by presidents and directors of associations and centers of Spaniards, people from the world of culture, scientists and entrepreneurs.

On Friday, the minister will also visit the exhibition “Rethinking Silence” at the MUNTREF Immigration Museum. This is a photographic exhibition of Nicolás Combarro, who invites us to reflect from architecture and memory on the political repression in Spain between 1936 and the end of the 40s. After the visit, the minister will attend to the media.

Afterwards, Saiz will visit the Galicia Center and the ESMA Memory Museum, which houses evidence and documents on the repression and imprisonment of Argentine citizens during the dictatorship between 1976 and 1983.
