Functions
The management and administration of the economic benefits of the Social Security System is entrusted, with the exception of those whose management is attributed to the Institute of Migration and Social Services or competent services of the Autonomous Communities.
The National Social Security Institute is specifically responsible for the following matters:
- Recognition and control of the right to economic benefits of the Social Security System and in its contributory form, without prejudice to the competences attributed to the State Public Employment Service in the field of unemployment protection benefits and the Social Institute of the Navy in relation to the Special Regime for Seafarers.
- The recognition and control of the right to financial allocation for dependent children, in its non-contributory form.
- The recognition and control of the status of insured and beneficiary person, whether as owner, family or assimilated, for the purposes of their health coverage.
- At the international level, participation, to the extent and with the scope attributed by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, in the negotiation and implementation of International Social Security Conventions, as well as membership in international associations and agencies.
- The management of the Special Fund of Mutual Funds of Social Security Officials.
- The management and operation of the Register of Public Social Benefits.
- The management of the economic and social benefits of the toxic syndrome.
- The regular management of its human resources and the material resources assigned to its mission.
- Planning, coordination and follow-up of the activities of the provincial medical units in the field of Permanent Disability and Temporary Disability.
- The performance of any other functions assigned to it by law or regulation, or entrusted to it by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security.
