El número de personas de nacionalidad ucraniana con autorización de residencia en España supera las 353.000 en junio de 2026

A total of 353,009 people of Ukrainian nationality presented residence documents in force in our country as of June 30, 2026, which means a year-on-year growth of 8.2%, with 25,675 people more than in June 2025, driven mainly by residence permits for temporary protection. This can be seen from the latest statistics published by the Permanent Observatory on Immigration (OPI), attached to the Secretariat of State for Migration, which tracks variations in the group made up of people of Ukrainian nationality with residence documents in our country.

If we consider the reason for granting the residence and work authorization, most respond to temporary protection: 76%, with 262,782 people. On the other hand, Ukrainian nationals who have a long-term residence account for 20%, with 67,724 people.

Elma Saiz, Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, said that

“In a context marked by the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine, the extension of temporary protection mechanisms remains a fundamental pillar in the process of integration of this group in our country.”

Residence permits for temporary protection were initially approved in March 2022 through Order PCM/170/20224, for a period of one year. Subsequently, they have been extended year after year through different orders to the present, the last date of validity being March 4, 2027.

Sociodemographic profile with special relevance for women

The statistics of the Permanent Observatory of Immigration reflect a prevalence of women over men. As of June 30, 2026, 58% (204,443 people) are women and 42% (148,566) men. Among those under 16 years of age, the gender distribution is fairly balanced; however, among the working-age population, women predominate, especially in the 33-49 age group, where their number is considerably higher.

With regard to the population over 65 years of age, women also predominate. This is due, in large part, to the number of Ukrainian adult women who arrived since the beginning of the war, although the Ukrainian collective settled in Spain before the conflict was already somewhat feminized in the working ages.

With regard to the provinces of residence, Alicante, Madrid and Barcelona account for 43% of the Ukrainian people with residence documents in force on June 30, 2026, with 62,831, 45,636 and 43,950 people, respectively.

Activity in the labour market

The Observatory points out in this report that of the total of 208,855 Ukrainian people aged 16 and over who had a temporary protection authorization as of June 30, 2026, 41,564, or 20%, were affiliated to Social Security according to data from the General Treasury of Social Security.

Of the 82,821 persons with residence permits granted for reasons other than temporary protection, 41,350 were members of the Social Security System, or 50 per cent.

By developed economic activity, the largest number of Ukrainian people with temporary protection authorization as of June 30, 2026 are in the activities of ‘Hospitality’ (7,807), ‘Construction’ (6,449), ‘Telecommunications, computer programming, consultancy, computer infrastructure and other information services’ (4,144).

In relative terms, among Ukrainian people with temporary protection, women predominate absolutely among care and domestic service activities, while men do so in ‘Construction’, ‘Telecommunications, computer programming, consultancy, computer infrastructure and other information services’ and in the ‘Transport and storage’ section.
