The Secretariat of State for Migration, through the General Directorate of Spanish Citizenship Abroad and Return Policies, will allocate one and a half million euros to the care of people of Spanish nationality and their relatives evacuated from Lebanon who lack resources and/or are in a vulnerable situation. And it will do so by virtue of the emergency declaration signed by the Secretary of State for Migration, Pilar Cancela, which authorizes the urgent hiring of accommodation and all services linked to its management and transport, as well as the acquisition of the necessary goods that allow the adequate provision of humanitarian aid.
At the moment, the General Directorate, based on this program - similar to the one launched almost a year ago with citizens of Spanish nationality and relatives from Gaza - has welcomed a total of 74 people, although it is not excluded that this figure, as happened last week, can be increased in the coming dates.
The General Directorate of Spanish Citizenship Abroad and Return Policies has taken charge of these evacuees thanks to the device promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the participation of the Ministry of Defense, as a competent body for the social integration of returned Spanish citizenship. In this case, the aid is aimed at people who, arriving in Spain, do not have a home of residence that can serve as a territorial basis for regional and local competences in the field of social assistance.
Gaza Programme
On the other hand, the General Directorate of Spanish Citizenship Abroad and Return Policies has extended until December 31 the emergency declaration signed by the SEM on January 12 of this same year to attend to people of Spanish nationality from Gaza who lacked resources. Currently, 97 of the 119 initial persons have been taken into care, and they are still in a particularly vulnerable situation.
In this way, and with this declaration, which will involve an outlay of 567,152 euros by the SEM, these families will be cared for in the months of 2024. On the other hand, the team of the General Directorate and Accem are working individually with each family unit to search for resources that guarantee basic needs, if necessary, beyond December 31.
