Expenditure on contributory pensions stands at 11.7% of GDP

Expenditure on contributory pensions stood at 11.7% of gross domestic product (GDP) in the month of November. 

 

Thus, the monthly payroll of the Social Security contributory benefits amounted to 10,913 million euros. The year-on-year increase stands at 4.5% in homogeneous terms.  

Along with the November payroll, the extraordinary payment of November 2022 will also be paid, amounting to 10,649 million euros.

Distribution according to pension class
Three quarters of November’s contributory pension payroll went to retirement pensions, namely 72.5%, or €7,914.2 million. A total of Euro1,839.2 million has been earmarked for widowhood pensions, while the payroll for permanent disability benefits amounts to Euro981.5 million, the payroll for orphans amounts to Euro149.6 million and the payroll for family members amounts to Euro28.6 million.
Of the 9,975,234 contributory pensions paid, 6,286,860 are for retirement, 2,354,435 for widows, 948,664 for permanent disability, 340,641 for orphans and 44,634 for relatives. The number of pensions is growing at a year-on-year rate of 0.8%, below the rate of 1.1% a year earlier.
For its part, the number of pensioners is 9,036,457 as of November 1. Of these, 4.6 million are men and 4.4 million women. The proportion of pensions per pensioner is 1.1 benefits per person. 
The main pension is the retirement pension for 6.2 million people, of whom 60.7% are men. The widow ' s pension is received as the main benefit by 1.6 million people, 95.9 per cent of whom are women. They are followed by those with permanent disability (943,344), orphanhood (323,371) and relatives (43,905).

Average pension
The average pension in the system is 1,094 euros per month in November. This amount, which includes the different types of pension (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood and in favour of family members), has increased in the last year by 5.3%; in homogeneous terms, 3.7%. 
The average retirement pension of the system, for its part, is 1,258.8 euros. By system, the average retirement pension from the General System is 1,406.4 euros per month, while the lowest is registered by the Autonomous System, 837.9 euros per month. In Coal Mining, the average monthly retirement is 2,453.7 euros, and it is 1,397.4 euros in the Regime of the Sea. 
The average amount of new retirement increases in the system amounted in the month of October 2022 to 1,390.4 euros per month (last data).
For its part, the average widow’s pension is 781.2 euros per month.
Between January and November, 282,102 retirement and 125,831 widowhood files were processed. The average resolution of these files was 21.8 days in the case of retirement and 20.27 days in widow’s pensions. It must be taken into account that the maximum period of resolution in these procedures, according to RD 286/2003 of March 7 and RD 1192/2021, of August 3, is 90 days in both retirement and widow’s benefits.

Gender gap complements

As of November 1, 364,871 pensions received the gender gap supplement, of which 92.8% are women (338,628). The average monthly amount of this supplement in the pension is 61.3 euros. Of the 364,628 supplementary pensions, 21.6% were pensioners with one child (78,936), who previously had no access to the maternity supplement. In addition, 47.2% of the beneficiaries have two children (172,276); 20% have three children (72,860) and four children have 11.2% (40,799).

This gender gap supplement, in force since February 2021, consists of a fixed amount, after the revaluation applied in 2022, of 28 euros per month per child, which is applied from the first child, unlike the previous maternity supplement. It is requested at the same time as the pension is requested.

Passive Classes
For its part, the monthly pension payroll of Passive Classes amounted to 1,348.48 million euros in the month of October 2022, the last data available.
The number of pensions in force was 690,790, 12,018 more pensions than in the same month of the previous year (1.7% annual variation).
The Passive Class System of the State includes primarily military and civilian personnel of the General Administration of the State, the Administration of Justice, the General Courts and other constitutional or State bodies, as well as officials transferred to the autonomous communities.
