  • PERCEPTIONS, DISCOURSE AND ATTITUDES towards inmigrants in a Madrid neighbourhood
    • Synopsis

This study aims to analyze in depth, from a qualitative perspective, the knowledge of social motivations, the reasons for the changes and new trends in Spanish public opinion that explain racism and xenophobia.

This study addresses a specific context, the Madrid district of Puente de Vallecas, in which it has tried to identify the social sectors, the essential issues and the speeches that support and explain the favorable or unfavorable opinion towards the people seeking protection, refugees and migrants in general. It is a first diagnosis that allows to demarcate the territory conceptually and to know the main currents of opinion, feelings and trends that can help describe the social climate of the neighborhood.

The Puente de Vallecas district has been the space chosen for research because of its socially complex nature, representative of many other neighborhoods that have suffered the impact of the economic crisis and a cultural crisis whose manifestations we still do not understand.
