    • Synopsis

The study shows the results of the research done in Working Package 1 of the Proximity project "Best practice and comparative study: services, structures, strategies and methodologies", on experience and best practice to prevent and combat racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance involving community policing officers in the project’s partner countries, i.e. Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The study is broken down into chapters, the first of which outlines the Member State framework for prevention and for combating discrimination, racism, etc. It establishes the conceptual framework and includes key words shared by the partners. Chapters 2 and 3 are devoted to describing and analysing the results of the best practices identified by the project partners. Chapter 3 compiles the results of interviews and focus groups including organisations involved in best practice.  In addition, a comparative analysis of best practice is offered on aspects such as communication and conflict prevention and resolution tools and strategies; specific training and methods to provide this training; and specific attention to operational gender and LGBT procedures.
