  • Development of racism, xenophobia and other related forms of intolerance in Spain (Report-Survey 2015)
    • Synopsis

The report is based on the results obtained from a survey taken in 2015 under the name “Attitudes towards immigration” conducted by Spain’s Sociological Research Centre (CIS). The perception that Spanish citizens have of immigration must be ascertained in order to implement preventive public policy and strategies and to be able to combat racism, xenophobia and other related forms of intolerance.

The report identifies the following as factors underlying the degree of rejection or tolerance of immigration, i.e. competition for scarce resources; frequency of engagement with immigrants; degree of empathy with the underprivileged; position towards integration and manifestations of racist or xenophobic attitudes. In addition, three profiles of those surveyed were identified based on their social and demographic characteristics and the factors indicating more or less tolerance.

As a novelty vis-à-vis previous reports, a summary was produced to make the report’s results more accessible.
