  • 2016 Special Raxen Report: Hate Speech and the Xenophobia and Intolerance Tsunami
    • Synopsis

The Special 2106 RAXEN report depicts international bodies’ (UN-CERD, OSCE, Council of Europe and European Union) great concern regarding the defence of human rights in the light of HATE SPEECH and the rise of extremist movements and parties issuing racist, xenophobic, antisemitic and Islamophobic propaganda aimed at decaying democratic values.

In Spain, although the situation is better than in other countries, monitoring shows us 500 incidents related to racial, xenophobic or other type of criminal intolerance during the year 2016.

The report presents a diagnosis of the situation, indicating:
Hate speech is on the rise on the Internet and social media.
Many aggressions continue to be perpetrated by racist individuals or neo-Nazi groups against immigrants, Muslims, homosexuals and other citizens singled out because of their diversity.
Incidents of xenophobia and other manifestations of intolerance have increased in society. There are xenophobic groups in our cities that squat in buildings and use slogans of “hunger and food” that exclude immigrants. They also agitate against Muslims and democratic harmonious interaction.
The ultra terraces at football matches continue to harbour and groom racist and neo-Nazi groups.
